Otter IX is one of the original GRP replica electric canoes built by the Steam and Electric Launch company in the nineteen nineties. A beautiful original named Beazie which had belonged to the music hall actress Beatrice Lilley (subsequently Lady Peel) and kept in a picturesque thatched boathouse near Marsh Lock on the Thames. The boat came to Rupert Latham of the Steam and Electric Launch Company for refurbishment and he was so taken with the design that he decided to create a low maintenance hull based on Beazie. A number of them were built in the next twenty years or so including Otter IX which I think was hull number 3. It has had only three owners from new and the current owner is selling due to upgrading to a larger contemporary classic also built by the Steam and Electric Launch Company.
The interior cushions are burgundy to match the cove line on the sleek 6 seater cream hull. Henley Technical Services has been in charge of propulsion maintenance for the past few years and new batteries, were installed along with a new charger just a year ago. A full length camping style cover and a trailer come with the boat. A current BSS certificate and EA Thames licence come with the boat.
