Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire
Frog Prince is a uniquely charming 22ft electric launch that combines traditional craftsmanship with quiet, sustainable cruising. Built by Patterson Boatworks in 2003, this beautifully presented vessel was designed with elegant leisure in mind, and a sense of humour too.
Originally named Celestine, she was commissioned for family outings on the Thames. Her spacious aft cockpit, seating up to 8, is ideal for entertaining guests, while the compact forward cabin houses a discreet galley area, storage, and a Portapotti tucked neatly beneath the forward bunk, perfect for day trips or even a weekend afloat.
Craftsmanship & Construction
Constructed in Patterson’s trademark cedar strip planking with epoxy sheathing, Frog Prince offers a timeless look with modern durability. Teak decking with mahogany inlay complements the rich interior bulkhead veneers, creating a warm and inviting space.
Build Summary
Propulsion
Powered by a 5kW Lynch electric motor, Frog Prince glides gracefully with zero emissions and minimal noise. (Fun fact: these motors powered the UK team to victory in the World Electric Speed Record in 1987!) Her batteries were recently replaced, offering reliable cruising performance for years to come.
Cruising Capability
With a shallow 24-inch draft and versatile hull design, Frog Prince is not only ideal for inland rivers like the Thames but also perfectly suited to estuarial or lake cruising. Her forward cabin offers just enough comfort and practicality for a relaxed weekend afloat.
The boat is in very good condition due to having benefitted from careful ownership and the protection of a cosy boathouse throughout her time on the Thames.
The current owners are listing Frog Prince as they prepare to relocate away from the river, and are now seeking thoughtful new custodians for their beloved 'handsome prince'.
